A National Stage for Aerospace Talent

Six students from Tulsa Tech recently stepped into the national spotlight at MRO Americas, one of the world’s leading aerospace maintenance, repair, and overhaul conferences. Held annually, this event brings together over 16,000 industry professionals and more than 850 exhibitors from across the globe. For these Oklahoma students—some still in their first year of General Aviation training—it was more than a competition; it was a career-launching experience powered by opportunity, preparation, and vision.

Thanks to grant support from LaunchOK (formerly STEAM Catapult Fund), these students competed, connected, and impressed. One student even caught the attention of executives from Embraer, one of the world’s largest aerospace companies, illustrating just how impactful this moment was.

What is MRO Americas?

A Global Hub for Aviation Innovation and Workforce Development

Hosted by Aviation Week Network, MRO Americas is the premier event in the United States for the aviation maintenance industry. Held in different cities each year, it features live aircraft displays, hands-on competitions, and sessions led by top executives from Boeing, Airbus, Pratt & Whitney, and other industry leaders.

Key features of MRO Americas include:

  • The Aerospace Maintenance Competition (AMC): A skills-based competition where students and professionals complete time-based challenges modeled after real-world aircraft maintenance.
  • Educational Panels and Exhibits: Offering direct access to the latest technology, trends, and workforce needs in aviation.
  • Recruitment and Networking Opportunities: Connecting students and emerging professionals with recruiters, engineers, and executives.

By competing at MRO Americas, students gain real-world exposure, industry-recognized validation, and life-changing connections that elevate their careers before they’ve even graduated.

Oklahoma’s Moment on the National Stage

The participation of Tulsa Tech students at MRO Americas is a proud moment for the state of Oklahoma—a clear demonstration of the impact of redirecting tax dollars into aerospace education through LaunchOK (formerly STEAM Catapult Fund).

“What these students have accomplished simply would not have been possible without your funding assistance,” said Sheryl Oxley of Tulsa Tech.

That assistance includes grants for certification exams, equipment, and competition travel—all funded by individuals and businesses who redirect their Oklahoma state taxes through LaunchOK. This innovative model allows donors to earn up to 75% in tax credits while helping build a skilled, locally-sourced workforce that keeps Oklahoma’s aerospace economy strong.

Watch the Impact

This short film highlights the students, educators, and champions behind the LaunchOK mission. It’s a vivid snapshot of lives being changed, talent being recognized, and a state stepping up to claim its future in aerospace.

As Sarah Guardiola, CEO of LaunchOK, shared:

“This video is more than a marketing piece—it’s a moment of pre-suasion. It builds tactical empathy and aligns attention with the remarkable outcomes our donors make possible.”

From Classrooms to Careers: Why It Matters

Aerospace is one of the few industries where students can move from low-income households into high-paying, high-skill careers in just 4–7 years. Entry-level technicians can earn around $50,000, and advanced professionals like air traffic controllers may earn over $150,000 annually.

Events like MRO Americas do more than celebrate achievement—they create momentum. They show students what’s possible. They prove that with the right tools and support, Oklahoma’s youth can compete on a global stage.

LaunchOK: Making It Possible

This moment at MRO Americas is just one example of the transformational power of LaunchOK. By connecting education, industry, and tax-credit incentives, LaunchOK is fueling a talent pipeline that meets real workforce needs—today and into the future.

Every donation is an investment in economic mobility, educational access, and statewide growth. And the results are measurable, meaningful, and, as MRO Americas proves, inspiring.
